A
miniature spaniel, active and graceful and in perfect balance, the
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel stands 12 to 13 inches and weights 12
to 18 pounds. The skull between the ears is almost flat and
the stop shallow. The eyes are large and dark, set well apart,
but not prominent; the ears are long, set high and well
feathered. Neck is moderately long with a slight arch; chest
moderate; shoulders well laid back; legs straight and moderately
boned. The tail balances with body length and is carried
happily, but not above the back. The coat is long and silky,
generously feathered, never curly - slightly wavy is
permissible. Traditionally the Cavalier comes in four colors:
black and tan, solid red (ruby), red and white (Blenheim); and
tricolor.
Most Cavalier owners
are addicted to these beautiful dogs and want to own two or three at
a time. They are small, clean and gracious. Cavalier
King Charles Spaniels also enjoy being spoiled and enjoy the fat
life with royal elegance. Sleeping on the master's bed and
drinking from the mistress's glass are common place in Cavalier
homes. They are both active and affectionate, among the
waggiest wags to come from Britain where they are hailed as a top
breed in popularity. Perfect apartment dogs, they are well
behaved indoors and can be paper-trained with ease.
